Tragedy struck Wednesday when a 26-year-old man, Olajide Asade, was crushed to death while allegedly making a video call with his girlfriend.
The accident occurred at Adedero village, along the Abeokuta-Siun-Sagamu Expressway.
The information gathered that the deceased was travelling from Abeokuta to Ajah in Lagos State before the incident happened.
It was learnt that a Madza car which the late Asade boarded at Kuto Park, Abeokuta ran out of fuel and the driver parked by the roadside and went to buy fuel.
While all the passengers alighted and stood by the road side waiting for the driver to fix the vehicle, the deceased was said to be concentrating on video call.
In an attempt to cross to the other side of the expressway and continue his call, the victim was knocked down by an Abeokuta-bound Honda Odyssey vehicle.
Asade died on the spot and his remains were later evacuated to the morgue of the State Hospital, Ijaiye, Abeokuta.
Eye witnesses account said the driver of the accidented car, identified as Bolaji Balogun, was subsequently arrested by the police.
A relative of the deceased, who simply identified himself as Azeez, told our correspondent that he was travelling together with Asade to visit their mother in Ajah area of Lagos.
According to him, the deceased started making video call with his girlfriend since the commercial vehicle they boarded left the park.
